What To Expect

Explore the Haunted Heart of Fort Christian

As you cross the threshold of Fort Christian’s imposing red walls, you’re entering a place that has witnessed pirate attacks, colonial intrigue, brutal imprisonment, and tragic deaths. The thick stone corridors echo with the footsteps of Danish soldiers, colonial governors, prisoners, and perhaps... something else. One of the most intriguing features is a secret passage that leads to the VIP jail cells and guests on this tour will have the unique opportunity to explore it. The experience doesn’t stop there... you’ll also have access to the roof and gun ports, offering panoramic views of the harbor and waterfront.

Ghost Stories and Supernatural Encounters

Jumbies and Restless Spirits:

Local folklore says Fort Christian is built over secret graves. Many believe jumbies, malevolent spirits from Caribbean legend, still roam its grounds. Guides will share stories of shadowy figures, unexplained cold spots, and voices in the night.

The Prisoner’s Lament:

It’s said that late at night, the sound of chains can be heard from the old prison cells. The fort was used as the prison from 1672 until 1983. That makes it the oldest standing lockup in the United States and also one of the most haunted.

Echoes in the Dungeons:

The deepest rooms, once used as dungeons, are notorious for their oppressive atmosphere. Some believe the spirits of those who died in captivity, or perished during colonial conflicts, still haunt these dark spaces.
