Camden Ghost Walk
Guided walking tour of the beautiful, glamorous, and very haunted.
Zap! An electrical charge crackles across a metal box enclosing a gasping woman. You’ve just stepped inside Roy Hines’ barn in Camden, but now it seems you find yourself trapped inside the laboratory of a mad scientist. Your assumption is partially correct.
The Round Table Foundation, a parapsychology lab, had its humble beginnings in the renovated barn in Camden in 1948. The foundation was a non-profit organization for scientific investigation of telepathy and extrasensory perception (ESP). The woman in the box was psychic Eileen Garrett, sequestered inside a Faraday Cage. Her task was to identify the moments when an electrical shock was administered to the insulated box.
This was just one of many experiments conducted by Dr. Henry “Andrija” Puharich, a scientist with CIA connections. Collaborators included famous psychics of the time, including Peter Hurkos. The Hines’ Barn and later the Warrenton estate in nearby Glen Cove also attracted curious celebrities such as author Aldous Huxley. Expect to hear more surprising stories like this one and to learn about a variety of local paranormal happenings — including the strange goings-on at the Lord Camden Inn, some historic homes, and several other supernatural hotspots about town.
What To Expect
The Camden Ghost Walk was originally created by Maine's own Sally Lobkowicz and her Red Cloak Tours company, dedicated to preserving New England history and folklore. In 2022, Red Cloak joined forces with American Ghost Walks, and tour developer Allison Jornlin refreshed the script with new ghost stories and supernatural tales.
