Chicago St Patrick's Ghost Tour Irish Pub Crawl
So, this St. Patrick's Day, join us for a ghost tour pub crawl like no other. Grab your pint and steel your nerves as we explore Chicago's haunted past, with the Water Tower's eerie tale being just one of the chilling stories we'll unearth.
Built in 1869, the Water Tower housed a vital pump that drew water from Lake Michigan — but this everyday structure hides an extraordinary story. When the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 swept through the city, one courageous pumpman stayed behind to work the pumps as everyone else fled.
His bravery, sadly, made no difference. Trapped by the advancing flames, he climbed to the top of the tower and took his own life rather than face the fire below. Even now, witnesses say that on certain nights a spectral figure can be seen hanging in the tower's upper windows.
